| Shortly
before TLAPD 2005, a couple o' fans, Cap'n Keelhaul and Cap'n Eyegouger
(real names omitted to protect the guilty, since one of 'em signs 'er
emails "government communications manager"), noticed that this
site was missing an important element toward enhancing pirattitude: Pirate
drink recipes.
So they offered t'research the matter themselves. And subsequently reported:
"Arrr! We've not be tardy .... for sure it was a hard job
cap'n but we've found and tested the best pirate drinks ever poured.
Some of our ship mates are but burly bait now ... we lost 'em on the
way but if ye have guts that can take maggoty tack gone green and good
sea legs and can focus yer one good eye on the bar ... haul in the supplies,
make room in the focsle and blend 'em up in five gallon jars. Garn get
'em into ye."
So here ye be: Dozens o' drinks, tested by pirates. Some traditional,
some modern, all guaranteed t'put the wind in yer mainsails, the fire
in yer eye and the cirrhosis in yer liver. Play safe.

Bumbo
In 2007, we heard from Amanda, who pointed out a strange omission in
our list:
Ok - so I'm enough of a geek to be doing research prior to my friend's
party. ... I'm looking for a grog recipe and come across this article
on grog on wikipedia that said: "The word *grog* may refer to a
variety of alcoholic beverages The word originally referred to a drink
made with water and rum, which was introduced into the Royal Navy by
British Vice Admiral Edward Vernon. Rum with water, sugar and nutmeg
was known as Bumboo and was more popular with pirates and merchantmen."
I've checked a few other sites and see that Grog was associated more
with the Navy, but that it was Bumbo or Bumboo that was far more common
among Pirates. And you've got no recipe for it in your listing of drink
recipes on the website so I present to you (entirely stolen
from Wikipedia) a Bumbo recipe:
Bumbo
* 2 parts rum
* 1 parts water
* 2 sugar cubes
* Sprinkle cinnamon
* Sprinkle nutmeg
Preparation:
Mix together and garnish.
Aye, have a great talk like a pirate day!
