19 Days Until International Talk Like a Pirate Day!!

In this issue:

Portland Pirate Festival

If you're in the Pacific Northwest this weekend, don't miss the Portland Pirate Festival.

This weekend the festival invades the historic waterfront of St. Helens, Ore., Saturday and Sunday. With longer hours and a cargo load of fun for the whole family, the crew has high hopes this will be the best Portland Pirate Festival yet.

And beside all the usual fun and tomfoolery of a pirate festival, Cap'n Slappy himself will be on hand Sunday, performing his song, "It's a Pirate You Are." And there will be singers as well!

All the information you could possibly need about where, when, what, how to get there, performnce schedules, how much etc. can be found online at

Don't miss it!

Video Project Coming Next Week

This year's special Talk Like a Pirate Day video project is almost – repeat almost – ready, and it's grand. Don't want to give anything away, but a lot of pirates have lent a hand, and Mad Sally has done a remarkable job piecing it together. With surprise celebrity guests and a special appearance by the famous Beer-Drinking Pig of St. Croix and some other fun surprises, this will be a hit. Don't have an exact release date yet – the final clips will be shot this weekend – but it should be about one week from today, maybe a little less.

We'll send a Poopdeck as soon as the video goes online. Keep watching your inbox. And in the meantme, you might enjoy this classic Pirate Guys video from 2006 –

TLAPDay Tees

If you're not going to "put on the pirate" this Sept. 19 (or the preceding weekend) but want to display your pirattitude, by all means visit our Cafe Press store and purchase one of the fine T-shirts, tote bags, shot glasses and other great products with this year's official design on it. Talk Like a Pirate Tune Up

Another tip for taking like a pirate this Sept. 19. Because ye've gotta get beyond "Arrr."

Today's tip – "Belay that!" When sailors are hoisting something, they tie the line off on a belaying pin. So to belay something has taken on the meaning of stop or halt. "Belay that, mates!" would be "Hold off on what your doing for a moment, fellas," or more simply, "Stop that!"

Previous tips – Prepare to be boarded!

You'll find lots more such tips and treasures in our two books, "Pirattitude!" and "The Pirate Life," which you can purchase online through the links here –

That'll be all for now. Keep spreadin' the word – and the word is "Aarrr!"
